Phospholipid glutathione peroxidase (PhGPx) reduces lipid hydroperoxides generated in biomembranes and also uses a wide range of reducing cofactors in addition to glutathione. PhGPx is synthesized as a mitochondrial PhGPx form (L-form) and as a nonmitochondrial PhGPx form (S-form).
