Previous studies showed that Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2) has four genes (hrdA, hrdB, hrdC, and hrdD) that appear to encode RNA polymerase sigma factors very similar to the sigma 70 subunit of Escherichia coli and that hrdC and hrdD could be individually disrupted without causing obvious phenotypic defects.
