The model eukaryote Saccharomyces cerevisiae is well suited to investigate the causes of metabolic disturbance. PRPP [5-phospho-D-ribosyl-1(alpha)-pyrophosphate] may be regarded as a junction of carbon and nitrogen metabolism.
