Telomeres are specialized DNA-protein structures found at the ends of all linear chromosomes. In mammalian cells, they consist of hexanucleotide (TTAGGG) repeats and multiple associated proteins. Telomeres protect the ends of chromosomes and prevent their recognition as DNA breaks.
