Thymidylate synthase (TS) catalyzes the 5,10-methylene-tetrahydrofolate-mediated conversion of deoxyuridine monophosphate to deoxythymydine monophosphate, a nucleotide required for DNA synthesis and repair. The impaired TS expression has been shown to be related to 28 bp tandem repeats and a G-->C SNP in the 5'-UTR of TS. Folate deficiency has been demonstrated to play a role in gastroesophageal carcinogenesis....
