Tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs) are the endogenous inhibitors of the matrix metalloproteinases, the ADAMs (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase) and the ADAM-TS (ADAM with thrombospondin repeats) proteinases.
