Tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs) are the endogenous modulators of the zinc-dependent mammalian matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and their close associates, proteinases of the ADAM (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase) and ADAM with thrombospondin repeats families.
