A thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) has been identified in the hyperthermophilic archaeon Sulfolobus solfataricus (Ss). This enzyme is a homodimeric flavoprotein that was previously identified as NADH oxidase in the same micro-organism ('Biotechnol. Appl. Biochem. 23 (1996) 47').
