BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Occlusive thrombosis is an important component of small- and large-vessel ischemic stroke. Endogenous tissue plasminogen activator (TPA) is the primary mediator of intravascular fibrinolysis and is predominantly expressed by the endothelium of small vessels.
