Thiopurine S-methyltransferase (TPMT) catalyses the S-methylation of thiopurine drugs such as 6-mercaptopurine. A common genetic polymorphism for TPMT is associated with large individual variations in thiopurine drug toxicity and therapeutic efficacy.
