Metronidazole resistance in Helicobacter pylori reportedly occurs by mutational inactivation of the oxygen-insensitive nitroreductase gene rdxA. Nucleotide sequences of rdxA were determined in a set of 46 isolates from 19 dyspeptic patients from the UK.
