Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) catalyze the conjugation of glutathione to numerous potentially genotoxic compounds. The GSTM1 gene codes for the enzyme glutathione S-transferase-mu, the GSTT1 gene codes for the enzyme glutathione S-transferase-theta, and the GSTP1 gene codes for the enzyme glutathione S-transferase-pi.
