Epidemiological studies have been inconsistent regarding a role for folate in the etiology of cervical dysplasia. Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) catalyzes the synthesis of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, which is involved in the methylation of homocysteine to methionine.
