Leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) is a survival factor for motoneurons. In this study we investigated whether intense systemic LIF therapy prevents the loss of lumbar motoneurons in the transgenic SOD1 G93A mouse model of familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
