MDR3 P-glycoprotein mediates canalicular phospholipid transport in hepatocytes. Defects in the MDR3 gene have been found to cause a subtype of progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis (PFIC) with high gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase (GGT) levels.
