Carbapenem resistance in Acinetobacter spp. is increasingly being associated with OXA-type beta-lactamases with weak hydrolytic activity against imipenem and meropenem. Such enzymes were characterized from Acinetobacter isolates collected in Belgium, Kuwait, Singapore, and Spain.
