Pemphigus foliaceus is an autoantibody-mediated blistering disease in which antibodies against desmoglein 1 cause loss of adhesion among keratinocytes in the superficial epidermis.1 Desmogleins are transmembrane glycoproteins found in desmosomes, which provide physical connections between cells.
