The genome of Trypanosoma cruzi contains tandem arrays of alternating genes encoding amastin and tuzin. Amastin is a surface glycoprotein abundantly expressed on the intracellular mammalian amastigote form of the protozoan parasite, and tuzin is a G-like protein.
