Rat myoblasts were genetically modified to express tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) and produce dopamine in culture. Implanting TH gene-transfected myoblasts into the denervated striatum of 6-OHDA-lesioned rats significantly decreased rotational asymmetry by 50 to approximately 60%.
