Nucleotide-binding leucine-rich repeat (NLR) immune receptors sense pathogen molecules and oligomerize, initiating defense signaling. Some NLRs function poorly at elevated temperatures for unknown reasons. We show that temperature-sensitive NLRs retain ligand binding at elevated temperatures but are impaired in oligomerization.
