Neutrophils are crucial to innate immune responses to microbes. The crosslinking of opsonized pathogens by Fc gamma receptors (FcγRs) on neutrophil surfaces mediates multiple antimicrobial functions, including phagocytosis and the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS).
