<h4>ABSTRACT</h4> The type VII secretion system ESX-1 mediates virulence in Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium marinum . We find that in M. marinum , the synthetic organoselenium compound ebselen inhibits secretion of ESAT-6, a major ESX-1 substrate.
