Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is a rare, acquired clonal hematologic disorder caused by somatic mutations in the PIGA gene of hematopoietic stem cells, leading to the absence of GPI-anchored proteins, including the complement regulators CD55 and CD59.
