Intracerebral infection of Lewis (LEW) inbred rats with the neurotropic strain of the murine coronavirus JHM (JHMV) frequently results in a monophasic paralytic disease. In contrast, infection of Brown Norway (BN) inbred rats does not lead to clinical disease.
