Transcription of the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) gene is androgen regulated. The PSA promoter contains at position -170 the sequence AGAACAgcaAGTGCT, which is closely related to the ARE (androgen response element) consensus sequence GGTACAnnnTGTTCT.
