Using polymorphisms of the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) DQB1 gene, a case-control study was conducted in a group of patients with schizophrenia (DSM-III, n = 58) and psychiatrically normal controls matched for ethnicity (n = 72), living in the same geographical area.
