This article reviews four 'DNA screening techniques', namely heteroduplex analysis, single-strand conformational polymorphism (SSCP), denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) and temperature gradient gel electrophoresis (TGGE) as tools for the study of allelic variation in natural populations.
