Arcelins are seed storage proteins present in some wild bean accessions (Phaseolus vulgaris). They are implicated in the resistance phenotype of these wild beans towards the Mexican bean weevil. Arcelin 5, one of six arcelin electrophoretic variants, has been characterised in detail.
