The two reaction-centre proteins of the photosystem I (PSI) complex are encoded by two adjacent genes named psaA and psaB. We have performed targeted mutagenesis to insertionally inactivate each of these genes in the filamentous cyanobacterium Anabaena variabilis ATCC 29413.
