Lovastatin, an inhibitor of the rate-limiting enzyme of cholesterol synthesis, inhibits growth of pancreatic cancer cells. A possible mechanism of this inhibition is that lovastatin inhibits the activity of RAS protein by depleting farnesyl (an intermediate of cholesterol synthesis).
