Contrary to its effects on the gamma-aminobutyric acid type A receptor, picrotoxin antagonism of the alpha 1 subunit of the human glycine receptor is shown to be competitive, not use-dependent, and nonselective between the picrotoxin components, picrotin, and picrotoxinin.
