Phosphatidylinositol catabolism in Saccharomyces cerevisiae is known to result in the formation of extracellular glycerophosphoinositol (GroPIns). We now report that S. cerevisiae not only produces but also reutilizes extracellular GroPIns and that these processes are regulated in response to inositol availability.
