BACKGROUND: Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is characterized by immune-mediated platelet destruction and impaired megakaryocyte maturation. Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α), pivotal in the development of megakaryocytes and immune regulation, is downregulated in ITP.
