The mammalian/mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) protein is an important growth regulator and has been linked with multiple diseases including cancer and diabetes. Non-synonymous mutations of this gene have already been found in patients with renal clear cell carcinoma, melanoma, and acute lymphoid leukemia among many others.
