Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by inflammatory back pain and spinal ankylosis due to pathological new bone formation. Here, we identified CXCL12 as a critical contributor to pathological new bone formation through recruitment of osteogenic precursor cells (OPCs).
