Sickle cell anemia is hallmarked by hemolysis, which releases hemoglobin (Hb) into the plasma promoting vaso-occlusive crisis (VOC). Haptoglobin (Hp) clears free Hb and decreases Hb-related pathophysiology in sickle cell anemia.
