Interleukin 10 (IL-10) is an anti-inflammatory cytokine with lower circulating levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Cytokines such as IL-10 downregulate the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, which impair proper function of insulin.
