Isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) encodes a protein which catalyses the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to α-ketoglutarate. Mutant IDH1 favours the production of 2-hydroxyglutarate, an oncometabolite with multiple downstream effects which promote tumourigenesis.
