PURPOSE OF REVIEW: To understand how myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) transform to AML and to describe how transformation can be predicted and prevented. RECENT FINDINGS: Recent genomic analyses have shown that MDS progression to AML is associated with clonal expansion and clonal evolution.
