Maintaining manganese (Mn) homeostasis is important for the virulence of numerous bacteria. In the human respiratory pathogen Streptococcus pneumoniae, the Mn-specific importer PsaBCA, exporter MntE, and transcriptional regulator PsaR establish Mn homeostasis.
