ABSTRACT Although the TEM-1 β-lactamase (Bla TEM-1 ) hydrolyzes penicillins and narrow-spectrum cephalosporins, organisms expressing this enzyme are typically susceptible to β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor combinations such as piperacillin-tazobactam (TZP).
