Mutations in lysyl oxidase (LOX) are associated with thoracic aortic aneurysm and dissection (TAAD). Mice that do not express Lox (Lox-/- ) die soon after birth and have 60% and 40% reductions in elastin- and collagen-specific cross-links, respectively.
