Mycobacterium tuberculosis ESAT-6 (MtbESAT-6) plays essential roles in pathogenesis. MtbESAT-6 exhibits a unique pore-forming activity (PFA) that is not found in its ortholog from non-pathogenic Mycobacterium smegmatis (MsESAT-6).
