BACKGROUND: Arteriosclerosis is an independent predictor of increased cardiovascular mortality in chronic kidney disease (CKD). Histologically it is characterized by hypertrophy and fibrosis of the arterial media wall leading to increased arterial stiffness and end-organ damage.
