Laboratory investigation of hemoglobinopathies includes complete blood count (CBC), hemoglobin (Hb) typing by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and DNA analysis. DNA analysis is the most reliable method but requires a manually laborious procedure and is time consuming.
