Proteinopathy causes cardiac disease, remodeling, and heart failure but the pathological mechanisms remain obscure. Mutated αB-crystallin (CryAB(R120G)), when expressed only in cardiomyocytes in transgenic (TG) mice, causes desmin-related cardiomyopathy, a protein conformational disorder.
