OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of α-thalassaemia in β-thalassaemia individuals in a Chinese population. METHODS: The standard diagnostic marker for β-thalassaemia was elevation of the Hb A2 level (>3.5%) with low mean corpuscular volume.
