Sterile alpha motif and HD domain-containing protein 1 (SAMHD1) restricts human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection in myeloid cells but is inactivated by certain classes of simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) Vpx proteins.
