Incubation of Escherichia coli AB1157 in a thiamine-deficient medium causes a large, time-dependent increase in resistance to UV-radiation (254 nm) and a fall in its UV-induced mutation frequency to histidine prototrophy which are abolished in its uvrA mutant, but only delayed in lon- and recA- cells.
