Live attenuated rubella vaccine is used for vaccination. Temperature-sensitive (ts) phenotype was proved for almost all rubella vaccine strains, and the acquisition of the ts phenotype during cold adaptation was strongly correlated with the attenuation of the wild-type viruses.
